Blink and You Miss It: Senior Robbed while Dozing Off at Niagara Falls Slot Machine

When it comes to gambling, one should be alert and present at all times as this could prevent unfortunate situations from happening. This could be the loss of money on slot machines, or a full-fledged robbery, as it happened at the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino this Tuesday.

A 71-year-old woman fell asleep while gaming on one of the slot devices available on the casino floor and someone took advantage of the situation by stealing the cash she had, ATM and credit cards she had in her possession. Casino gaming demands constant attention that could guarantee winnings reaching thousands of Canadian dollars.

Dozing off at a slot machine is not recommended, as a Niagara Falls resident could confirm from personal experience. A criminal took some US$900 in cash that was in her possession at the time of the crime, as well as plastic cards. The Niagara Falls Police Department was notified immediately.

Casino Patron Wakes Up to Missing Cash

The woman is a permanent resident of the City of Tonawanda and she had been on a gaming spree at the time of the unfortunate event. It took place in the early morning, as the woman was dozing off while playing at one of the slot machines on site.

The larceny turned out being successful, as the individual responsible for it bagged US$900 in cash that was supposed to be gambled and possibly multiplied. Her purse was placed under her seat while she was gambling, in order to be easily accessible at all times. Unfortunately, this also made it easier for the criminal to obtain her cash and credit cards while she was asleep.

The senior was awaken by an individual of the security staff, who noticed that the woman was sleeping. She informed them that someone might have stolen something from her purse. In order to validate this, security camera footage was closely inspected only to reveal that larceny, in fact, took place while she was asleep.

Police are Now after the Criminal

The video footage confirmed the seniorā€™s concerns, showing that an individual took the purse placed underneath the chair and decided to take no risks. The male took the bag to the restroom, where allegedly he inspected its contents and bagged the cash and the two plastic cards. Later on, he returned the bag right where he found it. Soon after that, the individual made his escape with everything valuable from in the elderly womanā€™s bag.

Police officers were contacted as soon as the woman found out about her missing money. Around 10 a.m. the police made it to the casino venue in order to inspect the footage and follow protocol. The criminalā€™s face was visible and this image is now referred to the Niagara Falls law enforcement. In the meantime, players are advised to remain aware of their surroundings at all time, when they are in possession of large amounts of cash.

Niagara Falls, Canada is projected to become an even more heated gaming hub, as Ontarioā€™s Progressive Conservative governmentā€™s so-called ā€˜party budgetā€™ will soon be discussed. It could make complimentary alcohol for casino patrons available. Casino venues near the US border have always struggled to keep up with the times and their US rivals located in the vicinity.

Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino Resort face their main competitors such as the US-based Seneca Niagara Casino resort and Buffalo Creek Casino.
