WCLC Introduces the Exciting CATAN® Scratch-Off Game

Western Canada Lottery Corporation has introduced a new ticket product for its lottery enthusiasts this week titled CATAN® scratch ticket. The game was launched in collaboration with Pollard Banknote Limited and is the debut of the popular brand in the lottery sector. CATAN is a rapidly expanding game brand and is quite popular among adults under 35.

CATAN is one of the most popular modern-day board games as over 100 million have now played it since its launch. It has sold more than 40 million board games across the globe and almost 20 million play the game regularly. Meanwhile, the game’s online brand CATAN Universe boasts a massive community with over 550,000 active users every month.

In Collaboration with Pollard Banknote

WCLC’s new CA$3 scratch ticket comes with popular symbols from the CATAN world, such as brick, wood, wool, ore, grain, and gold. With a familiar key number match game style, players must scratch hex tiles matching their rolls to reveal game symbols. Players can win up to CA$50,000, while there are also two development card bonus features which can provide instant rewards.

Chelsey Rowledge, Manager, of Instant Games at WCLC said that Crown corporation is quite optimistic about the new scratch product and said it will be as compelling to the players as the board game is to its global fanbase. She added that the ticket is a great addition to WCLC’s library and predicts that players will enjoy the highly entertaining ticket which will support priorty programs and services.

Brad Thompson, Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Pollard Banknote congratulated the Crown agency on the launch of its first-ever instant game based on CATAN, which is one of the recently licensed brands to enter the lottery sector. He said that due to its massive following and enviable brand recognition, the ticket will certainly be warmly welcomed by lottery players.

In addition to that, the lottery provider has supplier WCLC with an integrated marketing campaign to boost player engagement and retail sales. Also, to support, the Crown’s CATAN debut, the lottery partner produced a “Hot to Play” video, in which it explains the game’s mechanics. There is also a play table screen ad for retail and POS support via tend cards and posters.

Adding More VLTs in Western Canada

Earlier this year, WCLC also improved on its video lottery terminals selection in a deal with International Game Technology. Via the latest agreement, the leading gaming provider launched 720 CrystalDual® 27 VLTs with the Crown agency. In addition to that, the supplier debuted its widely popular CX game set of VLT content in Saskatchewan.

More than a year ago, WCLC also inked an important collaboration with Inspired Entertainment for the launch of an additional 700 Valor™ VLT placements in Saskatchewan. Through the deal, the gaming supplier incorporated an additional 700 VLTs into the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. The updated VLTs feature new game themes specifically designed for the Saskatchewan audiences.
