Most recently, Canada has learned that another major Lotto Max jackpot has been won. This time a CA$55 million windfall has been claimed by a sole ticket, which is located in Alberta. Everyone in the province is urged to check their tickets and the winner has up to 52 weeks to contact the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission and claim it.
Lotto Max is a vastly popular draw-based game across the Great White North due to its immense prizes and two draws every week. Its winning numbers are drawn on Tuesday and Friday. The main prize of the game can reach a whopping CA$70 million, and once it goes above the CA$50-million mark, there are also multiple Maxmillion prizes up for grabs.
Looking for the Winner
Shortly after the draw on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, the AGLC and other provincial lotteries reported that the Lotto Max has been won by a single ticket. It was later announced that the holder of the winning ticket resided in Alberta. According to the Crown Corporation, the winner is not from Edmonton or Calgary and they have up to 52 weeks to claim the major payout.
Tuesday’s jackpot is now the biggest lottery win in the province since a Calgarian player claimed a stunning CA$70 million from the game in October 2022. AGLC reported that the winning number for the most recent win were 04, 19, 21, 33, 37, 38, and 39. Meanwhile, 42 was drawn as a bonus number. Everyone is advised to check their tickets for the draw.
As mentioned, last year, the Province of Alberta also saw how Calgary business owner Mitchel Dyck won a stunning CA$70,000,000 in Lotto Max. According to the AGLC, his major winning is the largest Lotto Max one recorded in the history of Alberta. His ticket was bought in the spur of the moment and luckily for him turned out quite alright for him.
Back then Mr. Dyck said that he always dreamed of driving a fancy car or living in an equally fancy house, now with the prize money, this is quite possible. In addition to that, he also revealed plans of taking his family on a Christmas holiday and take some days off work. The money will help him secure his children’s future and use it for their education.
Keeping his Promise
In the meantime, another winner of a Lotto Max jackpot has kept its promise to use his prizemoney for good. In the summer of 2022, Marcel Lussier, from Brossard, Quebec, obtained a windfall worth CA$70 million. Back then the retired Hydro-Quebec employee said that he will be looking to use some of the stunning reward to do some good and help rebuild Ukraine.
It was recently revealed that he is now sharing some of his massive cash out. He is donating 10% of his jackpot or around CA$7 million to the Fondation Véro et Louis. This is a non-profit charity organization that raises funds to help build homes for adults living with autism. They will be put into building two houses, one in the lower Laurentians and a second in Victoriaville.
