Once again, Loto-Québec is going to help the local communities, as this fall, the Crown corporation brings back its charitable lottery game, Loto-o-Suivant. The scratch game will make its second appearance, and 50 residents are set to take home a CA$10,000 grand prize. Winners will be also able to choose a charity to which the Crown will donate another CA$10,000.
Since 1969, Quebecers have enjoyed the Crown agency’s regulated lottery and gambling offerings, which has helped the local economy as its proceeds are reinvested in the province. Just last year, the Crown gave away almost CA$1.5 billion in lottery payouts, which was an all-time high for the province. And it now embraces the second round of Loto-o-Suivant.
Giving Back to the Province
This fall, Loto-o-Suivant, will return to Quebec and it will generate CA$500,000 for local charities through players’ activities. The Crown agency informed the public that tickets for the charitable game will be available for purchase both online on its lotoquebec.com web portal as well as at retail locations from September 26, 2022. Winners will be announced on November 15, 2022.
Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games for the Crown, said a few words during the launch. She commented that when they launched the first edition of the game last year, it was heart-warming to see how much players cared about being able to make a CA$10k donation to a charity of their choice. Now, the Crown is ecstatic about the return of the scratch game.
Each ticket for the game costs CA$2, and the Crown reminds that players who reveal a “100 $ + tirage” prize on their ticket will need to claim their entry for the draw, in addition to their $100 prize, by 4:30 p.m. on November 14, 2022. It also reaffirmed that it will not be making proceeds from the initiative as all winnings go to local charities.
The grand prize draw for the 50 winners will be hosted on November 15, 2022. The lucky winners will be contacted and they will be required to choose a charity which will receive a CA$10k donation. The charity must be based in Québec and registered under CanadaHelps, which works in conjunction with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Q1 Report and End of Strike
A few days ago, Loto-Québec, published its financial report for the first quarter of the financial 2022-2023 year. It applies to the period of April 1, 2022, through June 27, 2022, and in that time, the Crown reported total revenue of CA$744.3 million. This was a major improvement on the same quarter from the 2021-2022 FY or put into numbers 85.5% more.
In addition to that, last week, the Crown corporation also managed to resolve its conflict with the 455 professionals who went on strike and continue normal operations. The workers accepted a new collective agreement with a 96% majority and returned to their workplace. The new agreement will be in effect until December 31, 2027, and award them with improved working conditions.
