Playtech Enters Alberta on Opening Day of Regulated iGaming

Playtech-expands-North-American-footprint-with-entry-into-Albertas-online-gaming-marketPlaytech has begun supplying licensed operators in Alberta as the province opens its regulated online gaming market, adding a new Canadian jurisdiction to the company’s North American presence.

The supplier entered the market from its first day of operation, making its casino and live gaming portfolio available through a roster of operator partners. Its initial offering includes games that have previously attracted player engagement in other regulated North American markets.

Titles available to operators include Adventures Beyond Wonderland and Mega Fire Blaze™ Roulette, along with casino game Oink Oink Oink™. Playtech plans to work with its partners as Alberta’s market develops and broaden the content it provides over time.

The Alberta entry follows Playtech’s earlier expansion into Ontario. The company also launched in that province when its regulated iGaming market opened in 2022.

Day-One Entry Adds Another Canadian Market

Playtech’s participation from Alberta’s opening day continues an approach the company previously followed when Ontario introduced regulated online gaming four years earlier.

In Alberta, the supplier begins with an established collection of casino and live products while supporting licensed operators active under the province’s new regulatory structure. Playtech said its experience working across established jurisdictions provides a basis for its operations as the Alberta market develops.

Shimon Akad, Playtech Chief Operating Officer, stated: “Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy. We are pleased to be supporting our partners with some of our strongest-performing content and are committed to working closely with them as the market evolves, broadening our offering and helping them deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”

The company’s initial product lineup reflects its focus on content that has already been offered in regulated North American markets. Adventures Beyond Wonderland and Mega Fire Blaze™ Roulette form part of the available selection, alongside Oink Oink Oink™.

As licensed operators begin activity in Alberta, Playtech intends to maintain close cooperation with its partners and expand its offering as the market progresses.

New Market Operates Under Alberta Regulatory Framework

Playtech’s arrival comes as Alberta begins operating its regulated online gaming sector under a framework established by the iGaming Alberta Act and supported by AGLC’s iGaming Standards.

The company drew particular attention to the centralised self-exclusion system introduced as part of the market’s player protection measures.

Charmaine Hogan, Global Head of Government Relations at Playtech, added: “Alberta has set a strong regulatory foundation for its iGaming market, and the establishment of a centralised self-exclusion system is a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players. Well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market. We will continue to work constructively with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry partners as the market matures.”

Playtech plans to continue engaging with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and other industry participants while the newly regulated sector develops.

Its comments on the regulatory structure place player safeguards alongside the commercial rollout of its content. The supplier enters the province with licensed operator partnerships already supporting distribution of its games and expects its activities to develop alongside the market.

Alberta Entry Builds on 2022 Ontario Launch

The new launch expands a Canadian presence that began with Playtech’s participation in Ontario’s regulated iGaming market in 2022.

Ontario also saw Playtech enter from the first day of its regulated market opening. The Alberta launch therefore gives the company another day-one presence in a regulated Canadian online gaming jurisdiction.

For its latest Canadian expansion, Playtech is initially relying on casino and live titles that have already been used across regulated North American markets. Its operator partners in Alberta can access those products from the outset of the province’s regulated sector.

The company expects to broaden its offering as the market evolves while continuing to support its licensed partners. Its plans also include ongoing cooperation with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry participants as the regulatory environment matures.

With Alberta now added to its operations, Playtech has extended its regulated Canadian footprint beyond Ontario while maintaining its wider focus on North American expansion. The supplier’s entry combines its existing content portfolio with operator partnerships established for the opening of Alberta’s new regulated online gaming market.
