That stereotype was shattered some times ago with the evolvement of the game. Nowadays, poker is accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, culture or any other factors. Even if so, it should be admitted that men are still the majority at the poker tables.
Since the boom of poker in 2003, more and more women started to open up the game and consequently appear on top of the leaderboard. Olivia Boeree is an English-based poker player and model. She started her poker career in 2005, when she appeared on the British reality Ultimatepoker.com Showdown. Her poker fans know her also under the nickname “The Iron Maiden”. Besides her eye-catching appearance, Ms. Boree has boosted her bankroll with nearly 3 million from playing poker. She proved that women can be as good as men in poker, winning 2010 European Poker Tour in Sanremo.
In November 2015, Ms. Boeree’s name appeared on top of the Global Poker Index (a leaderboard index that ranks a great number of poker players from all over the world) and she took the 6th place in the female all-time live poker winnings list. And the cherry on the cake is that besides being successful at the poker tables and in every aspect of her life, she participates in various charitable events.
Tatjana Pasalic
Tatjana Pasalic is a Croatian poker presenter and her passion for the game started when she was 19 years old. Thanks to her poker-dedicated blog, she increased the popularity of the game among the Europeans. Currently, Ms. Pasalic is a highly-estimated figure in poker, as she invested all of her savings with the main goal to bring the hottest news directly from the tables of the European Poker Tour.
In 2011, Ms. Pasalic appeared at the poker tables of World Series of Poker, appearing in 1st place in the WPT Magazine’s list of the 20 sexiest women in poker. In 2012, Ms. Pasalic lost a prop bet to her boyfriend, the professional poker player McLean Karr. As a result, she played her second WSOP Main Event, appearing in a tight catsuit. Christina Lindley
Similar to Ms. Boree, Ms. Lindley is a model. She started her career at an early age. After some time, she decided to redirect her career and become an actress. Maria Ho is undoubtedly one of the most well-recognizable faces among the poker fans. The Taiwanese poker player pocketed over $2,000,000 in live tournaments, scooping a cash prize 32 times from WSOP events. She is also the only woman, who took three times the title “Last Woman Standing”, for being the last woman, who remained at the poker tables.
Besides her successful poker career, the exotic Ho is also a television host and commentator, becoming the first woman in the history to be hired to a poker-dedicated TV telecast. She appeared in various TV shows, including The Amazing Race and American Idol.
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Ms. Melo is a former hockey player, competing for the Dutch national team. She is born in Holland, but she is a Portuguese descendant. Her sports career is definitely worth the attention as she played 191 international matches and she scored 30 times. During her sports career, the beautiful blondie has won three Olympic medals.
