B.C. Man is CA$675K Richer After Scratch Ticket Win

British Columbia Lottery Corporation paid out another hefty winning last week, as it informed about a massive Scratch & Win windfall. According to the BCLC, Surrey resident William Goligher has scored an impressive CA$675,000 win by playing Set for Life. The winner is still shocked by the winning and is now looking for ways of spending it.

Set for Life is a nationwide Scratch & Win game in Canada which is quite popular among lottery enthusiasts. Winners are able to choose between a periodic annuity payment of CA$1,000 per week for a period of 25 years and a single lump sum payment of CA$675,000. In Mr. Goligher’s case, he opted for the lump sum payment.

Another Local Wins Big

The Surrey resident arrived at a BCLC office in Vancouver last week to claim his CA$675k-cheque and shared some backstory on the winning. He explained that it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy the ticket from the Real Canadian Superstore on King George Highway and 76 Avenue. He recalls going numb after seeing that he had won the amazing jackpot.

After that, he waited several days for the news to settle and took the ticket to a licensed lottery retailer. His wife went with him as she wanted to see for herself that the prize was real. Now, Mr. Goligher plans to use the payout to help out his family but will take his time on what to do next. They plan on celebrating the windfall by treating themselves to a nice dinner.

Despite already cashing out the prize in BCLC’s Vancouver officer, the winner said that the prize money is still a shock for him and that the feeling has not fully sunk in yet. Additionally, the winner said that with the help of the newly found money they will be able to do whatever they like next. Players who win big in the lottery, usually consider earlier retirement but time will tell for Mr. Goligher.

According to the Crown corporation, players in B.C. have already obtained some amazing prizes in Set for Life Scratch & Win in 2023. Currently, their winnings exceed CA$5 million with potentially more winning tickets on the way. BCLC’s information indicates that the chances for someone to trigger the game’s jackpot are one in 508,333.

More Winners from the Game

Mr. Goligher is not the only British Columbian to win big in Set for Life in the past several months. In March, BCLC reported that Salmon Arm’s resident Murray Wallace has also triggered the CA$675k jackpot in the game. Mr. Wallace bought his winning ticket while he was on his way through Kamloops and stopping by at the BVD Truck Stop on Kokanee Way.

In the summer of 2022, Atlantic Canada also witnessed a significant win in Set for Life as Timothy Lewis from Kentville, Nova Scotia also won CA$675,000. Mr. Lewis who is a regular Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 thought he would try something different and it paid out big time. After initially winning CA$4 and CA$8 he continued playing which ultimately brought him the life-changing prize.
