BCLC Announces Return of the Music in the Park Festival

After two long years, Music in the Park will finally make its long-awaited return to Kamloops, says the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. The Crown agency and the City of Kamloops recently informed the public that Canada’s longest-running free music festival returns to the province for its 28th edition. Locals will be able to enjoy free concerts every night for the next two months.

The BCLC is a state-run corporation which regulates and offers legal and responsible gambling and lottery products in the province. It is a social-purpose corporation which reinvests 100% of its retail and online proceeds back to the province. As a social-purpose corporation, it also organizes many community events which bring benefits to the local population and economy.

The Music Festival is Now Back

On June 30, 2022, Kamloops and the BCLC announced that Music in the Park will make its return after a two-year hiatus. The festival was not hosted last year or the year prior to that, due to health and safety concerns. But now the concert series is back and the locals can enjoy performances from the likes of Sabrina Weeks, Shattered Blue and Richard Graham and the Blackbeats.

BCLC’s Chief Social Purpose Officer and Vice President, Player Experience, Peter ter Weeme, said a few words on the occasion. He commented that as a social-purpose agency, the Crown is devoted to the organization of events that contribute to the social and cultural fabric of Kamloops. The Crown corporation has been a sponsor of the event since 1994.

Mr. ter Weeme continued by saying that the BCLC is more than excited to bring the residents of Kamloops back with the festival at the Rotary Bandshell in Riverside Park, which will be packed with numerous talented artists. He also urged everyone to stay tuned for the thrilling concert headline for BCLC’s annual Midsummer Music Jam on July 27, 2022.

The full 2022 Music in the Park nightly entertainment schedule is available on the City of Kamloops’ official website. Visitors are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations every Friday, in support of the Kamloops Food Bank. In addition to that, starting from July 6, 2022, Food Truck Wednesdays will also make a comeback at Riverside Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

BCLC’s Contributions and Recognition

Over its many years of operations, the BCLC has hosted many special community initiatives. For instance, in November 2021, it organized an online fundraiser named Love Local BC, which helped Food Banks BC and other organizations. Locals contributed to the cause, by purchasing gift cards from the Love Local BC page.

Last week, on June 23, 2022, the Crown corporation was recognized for its efforts in advancing Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging or DI&B by HR Director Canada. The BCLC received a 5-Star Diversity & & Inclusion Employer for its tireless efforts for authentic inclusivity. Only companies that employ between 500 to 2,499 individuals are considered in the report.
