Upstate New York Casino Cash Fuels Non-Profit Organizations this Spring

Casino operation is capable of doing more to the community than most people presume, a fact that is evident in the state of New York at the moment. The four commercial casino venues in Upstate New York team up with the Fairgame Arts Grants that aims to give creative organizations the support they need. This means that creative organizations across the Capital Region, the Catskills, as well as the Southern Tier region are able to benefit from financial support.

Organizations dedicating their efforts to arts should be encouraged to keep up their work, an ultimate goal that is eyed by casino venues operating in the Upstate New York area. They want to be able to support not only the host communities where they operate but also help other entities, such as the art organizations in need of funding. Grants equate to anything between CA$1,000 and CA$5,000 that could be claimed by non-profit organizations in the art and culture field.

Casino Revenue Supports Local Communities

Ever since 2014 Fairgame has been in operation and actively supporting the community’s development. The gambling venues that collaborate with Upstate Theater Coalition for a Fairgame are Rivers Casino and Resort, Resorts World Catskills, del Lago Resort and Casino, and Tioga Downs Casino Resort. They are the four commercial casino venues currently working across the region that provide gaming enthusiasts with diverse offerings.

In a sense, casino operation benefits the community with regular allocations to the host communities, but it is also able to attract locals to the arts organizations sprinkled across Upstate New York. Diversity when it comes to entertainment opportunities in a given region is crucial, which is why individuals should have options. Now organizations have the chance to file their applications and claim their spot among the entities benefiting from the financial support that guarantees their future operation.

March 15 is the cut-off date for applications and non-profit organizations have until then to claim their desire to receive one of the grants and introduce improvements to their operation. They could do so on the official website of the grants. Casino revenues in the said locations are projected to increase in the upcoming months, as the government is willing to introduce regulated sports wagering to the locations.

Sports Betting Could Boost Gaming Field

Wagering on sports events is going to be land-based for the time being and available at the commercial casino facilities, as well as some of the tribal gambling venues. Estimations are that sports betting would have to compete with online poker, as New York might not be ready for both. An adequate perspective on the field is mandatory in this situation, which has prompted Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal to seek more information.

She recently proposed a special bill that would look into the overall popularity of gambling on a state level. Opponents of both online sports betting and online poker could use the results of this survey for their agenda. Some of the entities involved in the Fairgame grants project are Bardavon Presents, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Clemens Center, Forum Theatre, Palace Performing Arts Center, Proctors, and Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Auditorium Theatre among others.

In Canada, the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program has a similar idea for supporting local non-profit organizations in the sports, culture, and recreation sectors. When it comes to this grant, the minimum financial support reaches CA$250 or CA$500 and the exact location of the group is what defines its size. Ticket purchases are crucial for the funding program.
