Brampton Player Claims CA$70M Lotto Max Prize

Ontario has now found its latest lottery multi-millionaire as the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation reveals that 54-year-old Manoharan Ponnuthurai won the staggering CA$70 million from Lotto Max. Mr. Ponnuthurai who used a Quick Pick ticket is the winner of the December 17, 2021 draw. However, despite the major winning, he does not plan on earlier retirement.

Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game that can offer immense prizes as the jackpot can reach the stunning CA$70 million. There are two draws every week, one on Tuesday, and the other on Friday. Tickets are available for purchase at land-based lottery retailers and online depending on one’s province of residence.

Winner Found

Last Friday, the OLG confirmed that Mr. Ponnuthurai is the latest lottery player to join the lotto multi-millionaire club as he obtained his cheque with the mega prize. The Brampton resident is now CA$70,000,000 richer, but he shared that he does not intend to retire early from work, as he managed a small manufacturing company, and several people depend on him for jobs.

While at an OLG prize centre, he shared that he won the life-changing prize, not by playing his usual lottery numbers, but via the Quick Pick option. Mr. Ponnuthurai explained that he has been playing lottery games for about 30 years, and it is something he and his father enjoyed doing, while also dreaming about winning something big from it.

The winner said that he will not be retiring but his wife will and she even has plans of going back to school. With the money, the family also plans to travel around the world, with Europe and the Mediterranean Sea in mind. They also plan to give back to their local community. The winning ticket was purchased at the Circle K at Torbram Road and Countryside Drive in Brampton

This has not been the only major Lotto Max prize won in recent weeks, as previously a Saskatoon ticket holder has won CA$50,000,000 from the game. Their ticket emerged as the winning one in the January 7 round this year, thus matching the seven winning numbers for the grand prize, which were 04, 05, 31, 39, 42, 45, and 50. The winner has 52 weeks to claim their payout.

Looking for Barrie Ticket Holder

Last week, Ontario saw one more big winner emerge from the province, as the OLG revealed that the Lotto 6/49 jackpot has been claimed by someone local. So far, the only details provided by the Crown corporation are that the winner is located somewhere in Barrie, and their ticket drawn as the winning one in the January 13, 2022 draw is now worth CA$36.4 million.

The OLG has also confirmed that last week’s Lotto Max jackpot has remained unclaimed and the prize will continue to look for its winner this week. On Friday the jackpot worth CA$17 million remained unclaimed, meaning that the next round on January 18, 2022, will feature an even bigger main prize, which stands at CA$22 million.
