Kawartha Downs Prepares for Derby Day Festivities

Kawartha Downs and Cavan Monaghan Township are inviting harness racing fans to a special Derby Day event later this month. The event is titled Derby Day and it urges everyone to put on their derby hats and semi-formal attire and come to the track on July 23, 2022, to enjoy exceptional harness racing as well as complimentary cocktails, dinner, desserts, and prizes.

Kawartha Downs is one of the most prominent horse racing facilities in Ontario and it is located in Fraserville. The track was established back in 1972 and this year it celebrates 50 years of exceptional operations. Besides elite harness racing, the facility also offers other kinds of entertainment such as slot games, concerts, and many community events.

Put on Your Derby Hats

Everyone is invited to Derby Day on July 23, 2022, as the track is teaming up with the Cavan Monaghan Township to bring guests an unforgettable night of harness racing. Attendees are encouraged to put on their derby hats, dress up semi-formally, and enjoy complimentary cocktails, desserts, and prizes at the venue.

Track administration informed that the special event will take place at the facility’s grandstand dining room, also known as the clubhouse, which offers a tremendous view of the racing oval. Tickets for the indoor event will cost CA$50 per person, CA$180 for a table of four, and CA$240 for a table of six.

Each ticket will include hors d’oeuvres, a complimentary signature cocktail, dinner, dessert and prizes. The Derby Day event will kick off at 4 p.m. ahead of the 6 p.m. of racing. Those who come for the races will not be required to buy an event ticket for the regularly scheduled harness races at 6 p.m. However, a ticket is mandatory for the festivities at the clubhouse.

During the summer, the Fraserville track has been running numerous events to celebrate its 50 years of incredible operations. It also announced that it will be holding a kids night at this Saturday’s races. It will also have an Agricultural Day and Tractor Pull on August 5, 2022, and a Demolition Derby on August 6, 2022. With even more events planned for September.

Redevelopment Plans

At the end of last year, the owner of the harness track, Romspen Investment Corp. announced that it has some significant overhaul plans for the property. The company announced that it considers expanding gaming operations at the site, as well as bringing a hotel, an indoor and outdoor concert venue, an entertainment amphitheatre, sports amenities, new residential homes, and much more to the site.

Then in January this year, the Millbrook Business Improvement Area received a hefty CA$25,000 donation from Kawartha Downs. This gesture is part of a three-year commitment between the two to bring support to local businesses. The Millbrook BIA is set to receive two more CA$25,000 donations, one in 2023 and one in 2024.
