BCLC Invites Non-Profits to Apply for Free Event Tickets

British Columbia Lottery Corporation is advising Kamloops non-profit organizations to apply for complimentary tickets to events via its new BCLC Community Ticketing Program. Organizations can receive up to 10 tickets each to attend a performance of their choosing for two BCLC-sponsored productions Shrek the Musical and Christmas with the KSO.

BCLC is a state-run agency that provides responsible gambling and lottery products to the Province of British Columbia. It also runs PlayNow, which is the only regulated iGaming platform in B.C. and 100% of its proceeds are invested into the local economy. Proceeds from its gambling operations are also used to support local organizations, groups, and communities.

Tickets are Available, Reminds BCLC

Via sponsorships and community partners, the Crown agency worked with several organizations to provide win-wins for local communities by leveraging allocated tickets by utilizing them to celebrate the dedication of non-profit groups. The Community Ticketing Program allows non-profits who may not have access to the opportunity to visit cultural events to do so.

This year, BCLC is once again sponsoring the production of Western Canada Theatre’s Shrek the Musical which will run from November 23 through December 9, 2023, at the Sagebrush Theatre. Community groups can now apply for tickets via an application form on the WCT page. Applications are available until November 12, and selected recipients will be announced on November 17.

Additionally, the Crown corporation is also a performance sponsor of the Kamloops Symphony’s annual Christmas with the KSO concert on December 16 and 17 at the Sagebrush Theatre. It will include the KSO Chorus and students from the Kamloops Symphony Music School, and the concert comes with a festive programme of traditional hits from the Baroque to current days.

The Crown agency reminds that community groups can apply for tickets to the 2:00 p.m. performance on Saturday, December 16, 2023, via an application form on the KSO web page. Meanwhile, groups should also know that applications are accessible until November 26, 2023, and selected winners will be notified by December 1, 2023.

Record-Setting 2022-23

In September, BCLC published its Annual Service Plan Report and Accountability Disclosure Report for the fiscal 2022/23. Its report confirmed that in the fiscal 2022-23, the Crown corporation provided a record-setting net income of CA$1.636 billion. Out of which CA$1.624 billion went to the province and CA$12 million to the federal government.

The improvement in net proceeds can be partly explained by the opening of the new Cascades Casino Delta, which debuted operations in the province in September 2022. The new gaming destination has a premium gaming floor of 500 slots, 18 table games and stadium-like gaming. It is located at 6005, BC-17A and provides work to around 500 individuals.
