Woodbine Ent. Determined to Host Mohawk Million Again

More good news is on the horizon for fans of live horse racing and its horsepeople as Woodbine Entertainment reveals to host Mohawk Million again. The horse racing leader is quite pleased with the results of the second running of the race this year and is now willing to have the race again at its Woodbine Mohawk Park in 2022.

This year the Milton race track hosted the second installment of the Mohawk Million and the event was won by the undefeated trotting filly Venerable. The exciting CA$1 million race took place at the Woodbine Mohawk Park on September 25, 2021. Venerable managed to outpace nice other horses in the second richest race for two-year-olds.

Impressive Second Year Results

On Monday, October 4, 2021, Woodbine Entertainment revealed its plans to host the thrilling Mohawk Million race for the third time in 2022. With major yearling sales set to take place soon, the horse racing leader is informing all buyers and breeders of its intentions to host the event again next year, if all slots are once again sold.

President & CEO of the company, Jim Lawson, stated that the company is extremely pleased with this yearā€™s edition of the competition and that it raised the level to a new height. Mr. Lawson claimed that Venerableā€™s win brought the expected excitement and joy when the race was announced earlier. The CEO is also thanking all owners and participants for the continuing support of the event.

Mr. Lawson also believes that it is vital for the horse racing industry to provide such exceptional opportunities as the Mohawk Million. He continued by saying that this is why the company announces its plans to host the race again next year before horse owners attend the upcoming yearling sale and thus having the event in mind before purchasing their next horse.

The second installment of Mohawk Million saw an increase of placed wagers with CA$495,270.90, this is a significant increase over the CA$327,186.16 in 2020. Also, the all-source handle for the race is estimated to CA$3,526,287, which is slightly less than last yearā€™s $3.7 million handle. The company will be revealing more information on its 2022 stakes season in the upcoming months.

The Queenā€™s Plate

This summer, the company also hosted the 162nd edition of the prestigious The Queenā€™s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack, which was one of the most anticipated horse racing events in the country. This yearā€™s format was won by Safe Conduct and the race also recorded a wagering volume of CA$3.5 million. This amount contributed to the trackā€™s total CA$16.1 million handle during the weekend.

Breedersā€™ Stakes Results

Additionally, on Sunday, the company organized the exciting CA$401,600 Breedersā€™ Stakes again at its Woodbine Racetrack. This was the 130th edition of the race and it was won by British Royalty, who is the son of the English Channel. Safe Conduct also made its return to the track but it was not his day and he finished eight. Second place was captured by Riptide Rock, and third went to Collective Force.
