Nova Scotia Casinos to Restart Operations

Nova Scotia moves forward with its business reopening plan, ergo enterprises such as casino properties can officially relaunch operations. In light of the restrictions easing in, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has decided to reopen both of its properties in the province. Casino Nova Scotia Halifax and Casino Nova Scotia Sydney open their doors today on June 16.

Both of the casino hotspots in the province were closed down at the end of April, with the Halifax property temporarily shutting down on April 22, and the Sydney one a few days later on April 27. Back then the province decided to close down most of the business due to concerns about the spread of the unprecedented situation.

Closer to Regular Operation

On June 15, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation announced that due to permission from the Nova Scotia Government to reopen certain businesses, the company will be reopening its gaming properties in the region. Both Casino Nova Scotia Halifax and Casino Nova Scotia Sydney will be officially welcoming guests from June 16, 11:00 a.m. ADT.

Terrance Doyle, who is Interim Chief Executive Officer at the gaming conglomerate gave more details on the imminent reopening. He stated that the company is pleased to recommence work at both of the gaming facilities, and is more than happy to welcome back workers and its eagerly awaiting gambling enthusiasts. Both of which will operate under a limited capacity in order to comply with social distancing protocols.

Mr. Doyle stated that the corporation is looking forward to many more reopenings across the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario as the country’s vaccination process is going according to plan. The interim CEO has also shared that Nova Scotia’s gaming entities will be operating under a limited capacity in order to maintain physical distance between patrons, Additionally, food and drink amenities will also be limited.

The Ontario-based gambling corporation was established in 1982, and it currently owns and oversees 26 casino properties in the country. As of right now the company’s properties in British Columbia and Ontario temporarily shut down. After a brief pause, the Nova Scotian ones will reopen on June 16, and the one in New Brunswick has not been interrupted in its operations.

New Brunswick

Out of the company’s 26 gaming properties Casino New Brunswick was the only one functioning for the last few months. After its closure in 2020, the gaming facility was reopened on February 12, 2021, and it has been operational under certain mandatory health and safety measures for both patrons and staff members. Additionally, the venue accepts only 50 guests at a time.

Contract Scandal

Despite its many positive contributions to the country’s economy and support for charitable organizations, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation still managed to get itself involved in a controversy. Former staff members of the company’s Nanaimo Casino have filed class-action lawsuits against the firm, as they claim to be had been wrongfully dismissed during the lockdown closure of the venue.
