Gateway Casinos Sudbury is Once Again Operational

Last Friday, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment restarted operations at another one of its Ontario land-based facilities, as part of its phased reopening plan. Following a serious cyber-attack on its IT systems, on Friday, the company renewed work at Gateway Casinos Sudbury. Meanwhile, its gaming site in Thunder Bay was also relaunched at a similar time.

As one of the largest operators of brick-and-mortar gaming establishments in the country, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment operates a total of 29 sites in British Columbia and Ontario with another two in Alberta. On top of delivering premium gambling entertainment, its operations also provide work to over 7,000 people while also contributing to the economy of host communities.

Sudbury Location Now Up and Running

Gateway Casinos Sudbury and Gateway Casino Thunder Bay restarted work on Friday, May 5, 2023, and are now open for patrons. On Friday, guests were able to enjoy slot and limited food and beverage offerings. But on Saturday, both casinos started offering their full services and table games and other amenities also renewed work.

On April 16, 2023, the operator informed that it would be closing all 14 of its Ontario gaming locations, after suffering a cyber security incident. However, even after the reopening of most properties in the province, Unifor Local 1090 which represents unionized staff at Casino Rama has recently shared its alarm about a potential leak of personal data.

In a recent memo, the union said it wanted to make sure that the operator has taken appropriate action to protect members from any potential impact from the breach if the information has been leaked or not. It resumed by saying that the company would continue to cancel shifts on a shift-by-shift basis until their systems were restored and up and running.

In a press release from last week, the company shared that it is working hard with third-party experts on a 24/7 basis to determine whether there has been a leak of any personal data. It also said that the cyber incident has now been reported to the relevant privacy officials, law enforcement, and government regulator and will continue to provide updates on the matter.

Renewing Royalty Program

At the beginning of April 2023, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment issued an announcement that its My Club Rewards royalty program has been renewed across Ontario gaming amenities. Via the new program, players can now play and earn points at the operator’s properties and redeem them in exchange for numerous first-class rewards at Casino Rama near Orillia.

The new and improved version of the MCR program is a gateway to the “Reward Life” which is a fully connected ecosystem of benefits and rewards that allows members to go bigger, and live better, in her words. There are five tiers – rewards, silver, gold, elite and ultra. Members of the program can enjoy the benefits of their tier such as discount food at the company’s restaurants
