After the closure of its Ontario gaming properties due to a cyber-attack, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment has now provided an update on its situation. On April 19, 2023, the operator informed that its 14 casinos in the province will remain shut down until at least Friday, April 21, 2023. In the meantime, the company’s working on recovering its IT systems.
Gateway Casinos and Entertainment is a major operator of brick-and-mortar gambling and hospitality establishments in Canada. It operates 14 casinos in Ontario, 2 in Alberta, and 15 in British Columbia. Its amenities are complemented by its Match & Eatery Public House, Atlas Fish + Steak, The Buffet, and other premium dining venues and more.
Closed until Friday
In its latest press release from April 19, 2023, the gambling leader informed that its 14 properties across Ontario will remain closed down to at least Friday, April 21, 2023. While its venues are suspended the company works on bringing back IT systems online, as the system failure was caused by a cyber-attack. Its properties suspended activities on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
A few hours before its latest update, the operator also informed that its Casino Rama Resort in Orillia will be rescheduling some of its live shows. The Chris de Burgh concert will now be moved to Thursday, April 27, 2023, while The Warrant, Quiet Riot and Helix concert has also been rescheduled. However, a date is not yet set for the show.
In addition to that, in its latest update, the company said that as of April 19, 2023, it was not aware and did not have evidence that personal information has been affected by the cyber-attack. It also wanted to reiterate that it has already notified the relevant privacy officials about last Sunday’s incident while also putting effort into recovering the operations of its systems.
Lastly, the leading operator of land-based casinos said that it appreciated the continued patience of its employees, customers, and government partners, as it works on launching its Ontario properties as soon as possible. The company said that it will continue to provide updates on its operations as soon as there are any about its imminent reopening of casinos.
Recovering Services across Canada
In April 2023, Gateway Casinos also announced the return of its My Club Rewards royalty program across casino properties in Ontario. Patrons can now play and earn points at the operator’s properties and redeem them in exchange for premium rewards at Casino Rama. Some of the new awards and experiences contain hotel stays, spa retreats, cruises, concerts, and more.
This month, the gaming company also reopened its Atlas Steak + Fish at its Starlight Casino which is located in the West Edmonton Mall in British Columbia. The premium dining venue which is popular for its open-concept kitchen, renewed work on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Reservations can now be made by guests through Open Table.
