OLG Makes Sizeable Donation to Local Charity

Once more the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is giving back to its local communities. The OLG and its employees have sent out much-needed financial support to the United Way Halton & Hamilton. Local charities will receive CA$2,575.75 each from the Crown’s ‘Collecting for the Community’ virtual campaign, thus making the total donation close to CA$120,000.

The OLG is the state-run provincial regulator of land-based casinos, and retail and online lottery products in the province of Ontario presented in a safe and regulated manner to locals. Revenue from its operations is then reinvested back into the province to support local groups, organizations, charities, education, and more sectors.

A Generous Gesture

Due to the unprecedented situation and its effect on the social gatherings, the Crown agency had to come up with new ways to help out. That is why, it launched the ‘Collecting for the Community’ promotion, and its purpose was to replicate on-site activations at events sponsored by the corporation before the emergence of the virus. The campaign also included a payment of CA$50,000 to United Ways in Ontario.

The duration of the promotion ran from July 19, 2021, through January 3, 2022, and individuals who visited CollectingfortheCommunity.ca had the opportunity to play the free activity and thus secured additional funds through participation. Through the campaign, each of the United Ways branches in the province will receive CA$1,000, but due to player participation, the amount would be even higher.

President and CEO of the Crown Corporation, Duncan Hannay, said that giving back to the local community is one of the main purposes of the corporation. He added that United Way and the OLG have a long history of symbiosis and that they are an important community partner that supports and looks after vulnerable populations through many community programs and charities.

For every dollar donated to the United Way Halton & Hamilton will help its cause. For example, a CA$1,000 donation provides nutritious meals for 100 seniors. Every dollar raised by the United Way Halton & Hamilton helps provide vulnerable populations with centralized access to numerous charities and community assistance programs, CA$1,200 supports 10 people with intellectual disabilities. Every CA$2,000 enroll four single moms in a career training course, making it easier for them to find a job or CA$2,000 provides 30 youth with the opportunity to cook affordable and nutritious meals.

Making Forbes’ List

Last month, the OLG was officially included in Canada’s Best Employers for 2022 list by Forbes voted by employees and it is for corporations with more than 500 personnel. This is the first time that the Crown agency has been included in such a list. President and CEO Hannay claimed that the occasion is a true honor for the corporation to be included and acknowledged by its staff members.

New Sports Show

In addition to that, the OLG has launched a brand-new sports talk show named Game Plan. The new show is set to provide coverage on the NFL and give fans more insight on betting and odds. It debuted last week, and it had Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana as a special guest, just in time for Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI.
