Rivers Casino & Resort Announces Temporary Layoffs

Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady is seeking way sin which it could make the best of the current situation. It was recently announced that the gaming hotspot in New York State is about to grant leave of absence to a portion of its casino staff members. The remaining individuals working at the casino resort would see their salary reductions over the upcoming months.

It could be recalled that the casino resort had to close for business mid-March for the protection of both its patrons and the people working day in and day out. Social distancing is the recommended approach nowadays and players were encouraged to stay home and take care of their health if necessary. However, the gaming venue remained close indefinitely with pending questions.

Temporary Layoffs

For the time being, none of the four commercial casino locations in Upstate New York know when they would be able to welcome back their casino patrons and recommence casino gaming. A couple of weeks of uncertainty led to the latest development, making it clear some of the individuals would have to be furloughed. This Monday is about to see the beginning of this process.

Over the past few weeks since the official closure, casino employees have seen regular payments but things would have to come to a halt now. The temporary layoffs that were announced last week would take place starting April 13. It has been clarified that they would last until June 30 and casino staff members should not worry about their permanent employment at the casino resort.

The management is about to continue paying health benefits of their workers in their entirety during those several weeks of a temporary layoff. Greg Carlin, Chief Executive Officer of Rivers Casino, made it clear that the decision has not been an easy one, as those people rely on the monthly payments. However, this is the current situation across the commercial casino locations, as well as the tribal casino venues statewide.

Staff Members Support Community

It could be recalled that last week saw the casino staff members lend a helping hand to the local community. There are many ways in which a casino is able to support its host community and one of those is through the support of local charitable organizations and more. Rivers Casino & Resort staff members volunteered to keep the locals fed during these trying times.

Some of the local organizations that benefited from their generosity were the Bethesda House, SEAT Center, Joseph’s House & Shelter, as well as the American Cancer Society’s “Hope House”. Along with those, casino workers also supported various veteranā€™s groups. The help came in the form of meal preparation and delivery to the local organizations. The support included fresh produce, sandwiches, water, as well as light snacks.

The weekend also saw deliveries of turkey dinner across the community organizations benefitting. These trying times should not prevent the casino resort from doing its regular acts of kindness. It could be recalled that last month saw the Problem Gambling Awareness Month at Rivers Casino during which patrons learned more about the true nature of compulsive gambling and how to maintain their healthy relationship with gambling.
