Caesars Entertainment Agrees with Tribe for a Harrah’s Casino in Northern California

Nevada-based gambling giant Caesars Entertainment Corporation has signed an agreement with the Buena Vista Rancheria tribe for a $168 million Harrah’s casino near Sacramento. The company will develop a new, 71,000 square-foot facility that will feature 950 slot machines, 20 gaming tables, and four restaurants.

The announcement came Friday when in a release, Caesars Entertainment said that it would provide brand licensing for the Harrah’s Northern California Casino, which is to be developed 32 miles southeast of the City of Sacramento on the Buena Vista Tribe reservation land in Amador County. The new Harrah’s-branded gaming venue is now owned and developed by the Buena Vista Gaming Authority, an entity of the federally recognized Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians of California. The development broke ground on April 11 and it is expected to be completed in 2019.

Once the casino opens sometime next year, Caesars will enter into a management agreement with the tribe, under which it will have the right to operate, manage and maintain the property. Rhonda L. Morningstar Pope-Flores, Chairwoman of the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians, said that the partnership with Caesars Entertainment and the famous Harrah’s brand would attract more customers to the new casino. The gaming corporation, which currently operates approximately 50 casino resorts within the United States and in several other countries, also expects that the new location in Amador County would generate strong visitation and excellent financial results.

Strategic Expansion for Caesars Entertainment in 2018

Construction work on the new Harrah’s Northern California Casino started April 11 on the Buena Vista Tribe reservation. The facility will sit on a 71,000 sq.ft. parcel and apart from the casino, it will be home to a full-service restaurant and three fast-casual dining outlets. Despite the fact that there will be no hotel part, the casino will require an impressive investment of $168 million. No further details have been released about the tribal casino. Meanwhile, the company has other interesting plans that were unveiled in the past few days and they mark the first non-gaming properties for Caesars Entertainment.

In a news release, the company announced over the weekend that it would be managing two luxury hotels and a beach club in Dubai. They will be located on the Bluewaters Island, an artificial island built by local UAE developer Meraas Holding. In fact, Caesars Entertainment will operate an entire hospitality and entertainment complex which will consist of two 5-star, beachfront hotels, one of which is said to be the second Caesars Palace. The hotels will have 479 modern rooms and state-of-the-art amenities will include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a beach club, a spa and wellness centre, retail outlets, and a convention centre. In addition, the complex will have ten apartment buildings and will attract customers with landscaped gardens, sports areas, and a total of twelve restaurants and bars.

This is the first resort without a dedicated gaming area for Caesars Entertainment, which started as a casino company and now operates five casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as two additional gambling venues in Nevada. It also announced plans to enter Asia with a foreigners-only casino in South Korea.
