Ontario iGaming Market Reaches Record July Handle

iGaming-Ontario-posts-record-breaking-July-with-handle-reaching-CA9.9-billionOntario’s regulated online gambling market recorded its strongest month since launching in 2022, with iGaming Ontario reporting CA$9.9 billion (US$7.1 billion) in total cash wagers during July 2026.

The figure marked a 30.7% increase compared with the same month a year earlier and represented the highest monthly handle recorded in the province’s online gambling market.

The market also posted strong revenue results, with total non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) reaching CA$414 million (US$298 million). The amount increased by 33.1% year-on-year and became the second-highest NAGGR figure reported since December 2025, when the market reached a monthly peak of CA$426 million (US$307 million).

Online Casino Activity Drives Ontario Growth

Online casino products continued to account for most of Ontario’s regulated iGaming activity in July, generating the largest share of both wagering volume and revenue.

Casino games represented 89% of total cash wagers and 80% of NAGGR. The vertical recorded CA$8.8 billion (US$6.3 billion) in wagers, representing a 30.2% annual increase. Revenue from online casino activity reached CA$330 million (US$238 million), which was 31% higher than the previous year.

Sports betting also experienced significant growth during the month. Total wagers placed on online sports betting increased 44.2% year-on-year to CA$992 million (US$715 million), accounting for 10% of the market’s total cash wagers.

Sports betting revenue followed the same upward trend, with NAGGR rising 47.2% to CA$78 million (US$56 million). The segment represented 19% of total NAGGR generated in Ontario during July.

Peer-to-peer poker remained the smallest part of the market. Wagers in the category totaled CA$116 million (US$84 million), a 16.5% decline compared with the previous year. Poker accounted for 1% of total market wagers, while NAGGR also represented 1% of the market after falling 10.2% year-on-year to CA$5.3 million (US$3.8 million).

Player Activity Increases Alongside Market Expansion

The number of active player accounts also grew in July, reaching 1,365,000 accounts. This represented a 44% increase compared with the same period in the previous year.

Despite the rise in player participation, average revenue per active player account declined by 7.6% annually to CA$303 (US$218).

Ontario has become Canada’s largest regulated online gambling market since introducing its open licensing framework in 2022. During its third year of operation, the province recorded CA$82.7 billion (US$59.6 billion) in total handle and generated CA$3.2 billion (US$2.3 billion) in gross gaming revenue.

The continued growth of the market has also coincided with increased regulatory oversight. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the province’s gambling regulator, recently issued a CA$70,000 (US$50,427) penalty against gaming developer Booming Games.

The penalty followed the regulator’s finding that Booming Games used a prohibited auto-play feature in its games. The action highlighted the ongoing enforcement measures applied as Ontario’s regulated online gambling sector continues to expand.
